The
foredeck. Planks are of a local lightweight hardwood called
"Linga Maluccu". Normally used for furniture, it has proved
excellent for deck planking when treated with Teak
oil regularly. Note the Tiki
lashed crossbeams, lengthened and deepened from the Tane
update drawings, but otherwise built
to plan. (Length 17ft 6in, depth at centre 10in.) |
The
centre deck. Note the chevron planking, partly for visual
impact, partly because I couldn't get longer planks! Of
course, it required a central fore/aft beam for support. The
white box contains the fuel tank and useful seating. |

Part
of the galley, plus the drop-down saloon table. Note use of local
"Formica" type laminate for ease of cleaning and hygiene. |
Tiller
connecting bar of 2" S/S tube, with steering cables of 3/16"
stainless 7X7. The flag post slots into a stain- less fitting let into one
tread of the "back stairs". Note also the rope mainsheet
traveller (5/16" Staset-X) and traveller pulley adapted from a
Ronstan 2" fiddle block - works well. Netting beams - fore and aft -
are 4" dia. aluminium tube. |

A
shot down the port companionway. Bulkhead to the right is the additional
one we put in the centre because of the stretch. Not really necessary, but
I like strength! All carpet is corded plain-back (no foam!) and attached
with industrial carpet tape - no GLUE! |
End
fitting for the traveller. Made of welded 9mm aluminium plate and
through-bolted with a (large!) backing plate under the deck. All bulwark
cappings are varnished Teak. |
