Port
motor is shown box down and tilted down (running position). Stbd motor
shown box up and tilted up (fully stowed). The hydraulic tilt makes it
easy to retract the motors for sailing and the boxes can be left down
unless it gets rough. |

A
close up showing the motor box. Gunter completely re-designed the boxes to
carry the heavier motors and added several refinements. Note how the
motors are fully supported while running by curved sides that rest on
counter bevelled rails. The extended sides also help protect the motor
from spray. An 8 part tackle is used to retract the box evenly on both
sides. |

Close
up of the steering drum machined from a solid block of nylon. The inside
diameter of 110 mm gives about 6 turns lock to lock (about 2 meters of
tiller end travel). This ratio needs to be kept in mind for those wanting
to modify the tillers as discussed in the forum. As also mentioned there,
nothing is shown on the plans how to route the steering lines after
exiting the turning blocks on the aft beam. We put U-bolts in each tiller
end to attach the lines and a turning block with a 2 part adjustable
purchase attached to the port hull just aft of the beam. The geometry of
the steering lines also require a low angle of the main sheet as discussed
re the ramp. |
