"Round
the Island Race" 2001,

So, Chris Dunn's
"BigCat" entered and completed the 65th "Round the Island
Race". 1730 yachts took part, the majority were monohulls and a large
percentage of those compete in races regularly... We crossed the finish
line around 350th, but didn't stop to "declare" so failed to
collect our trophy (we went straight to & grabbed the best anchorage
on the Beaulieu River for a bit of relaxation). |

We're away, into the rain. |

Hey
guys, it's this way! |
Looks brighter ahead (note
fenders ready for use). |

I'm looking grumpy - can't hear the kettle whistling perhaps? |
Close
encounters of the mono kind. |

It's
stopped raining, but this is mid-summer? |
Completed, and on anchor we
settle down to a great meal and the odd bottle of wine. |

Even
without a spinnaker on board we could match & beat most of the boats
competing, to windward as well, but when it came to close quarters tacking
we were in trouble - Pahi 63's are definitely not suited to it. You can
believe we struck fear into the hearts of a few gambling port-tack
helmsmen but some of them certainly got their own back! NB.
